description: The following analytic identifies the execution of qwinsta.exe executable
in Windows Operating System. This Windows executable file can display information
about sessions on a remote desktop session host server. The information includes
servername, sessionname, username and many more. This tool is being abused of Qakbot
malware to gather information to the targeted or compromised host that will be send
back to its Command And Control server.

how_to_implement: To successfully implement this search you need to be ingesting information
on process that include the name of the process responsible for the changes from
your endpoints into the `Endpoint` datamodel in the `Processes` node. In addition,
confirm the latest CIM App 4.20 or higher is installed and the latest TA for the
endpoint product.
known_false_positives: Administrator may execute this commandline tool for auditing
purposes. Filter as needed.
